Lillian Gusmano

A Letter From Peter
Lillian's Husband

Lillian my beloved wife passed on to heaven
on November 17th, 2005. Lillian had a sporadic form of ALS-Lou Gehrigs Disease. It is estimated of the U.S. population living today that 300,000 Americans will die of ALS.

There are so many ways I love my wife that I can hardly count them. Lillian has always had from the very first day I met her, a special quality of playfulness, humor, intelligence, and caring spirit that made her loved and respected not only by her family, but by many who came in contact with her.

My wife had a special love for art, color, decorating and puzzle solving. There was not a day gone by when she wasn't doing the New York Times crossword puzzle. A voracious reader of many books with mystery novels her favorite. Lillian was an extraordinary woman who enjoyed doing things "with great love." The simple, considerate "little things" in life that are so often taken for granted.

Lillian faced two years of enormously difficult physical, emotional and neurological challenges as the debilitating effects of ALS, Amotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, took its insidious path destroying muscles, her ability to speak, swallow, and walk. During all this time Lillian was cared for at home.

Every day she maintained her sense of dignity, bravery, humor and involvement in family activities. ALS could not submerge her as an individual, her wonderful smile and spirit kept shining through.

Even in her last few remaining hours, my beautiful wife did not give up her fight, but she was ready to let go and trust in God to care for her. She had let us know that she wanted "to go home."

It is my hope that you will join us in the fight againt ALS and in my wife's honor, Lillian Gusmano, by donating to Project A.L.S. or by purchasing our "Lets' Cure ALS" wristbands or pins.

We need to find a cure or medication for ALS so that wonderful people all over the world who have so much love to give, can be spared from this debilitating desease.

God Bless You.
